Tuck End Soap Boxes

What is a tuck end soap box?

A tuck end box is a folded carton with a flap at each short end that tucks into the body. You open it by lifting a flap and sliding the bar out. It is the shape most people picture when they think of a boxed bar on a shelf.

Ours are printed to order on white card, with kraft card as the alternative. Each one is cut to your bar, so the inside is the bar plus about 2 mm each way. That leaves a snug fit without forcing a bevelled edge hard against the fold.

Why makers pick a tuck end for everyday bars

Speed is the first reason. At the bench, with a loaf cut into a dozen bars and a tray of cured soap in front of you, a tuck end goes from flat to finished in a few seconds. That matters when you are boxing a whole batch in one sitting.

The broad front, back and sides give you room for a name, scent, weight and your details without crowding the artwork. The flat top and bottom stack neatly on a gift shop shelf, and the boxes sit square beside each other on a market table.

They also suit regular lines. Keep one box size for every bar from the same mould, then change only the colour or the scent name between runs.

How do you size a tuck end box to your bar?

Measure the finished bar after it has cured and shrunk, not the fresh cut. Take length x width x height in mm at the widest points. A cold process bar can lose a little size over several weeks, so measure late and measure a few bars, not just one.

The table shows common UK bars and the box inside that goes with each.

Board, print and finish choices

White card gives a clean base for bright colour, which is why a stack of printed boxes can look so vivid. Kraft card has a warmer, earthier base, and a white ink panel can sit on top of it when you want text to stand out.

  • Full colour print across the whole box
  • One or two ink colours for a simple, bold look
  • White ink panel on kraft for logos that need to pop
  • Print inside the flap for a short message or scent note
  • Surface options on the quote: embossing, foil, spot varnish, soft-touch, gloss or matt
  • Optional clear window patch in any shape

Ask for the finishes you like on your enquiry and we will show what each one adds to the quote.

Can a tuck end box have a window?

Yes. A clear film patch can be cut in any shape and fitted to the front, so shoppers see the colour and texture of the bar. The film keeps fingers off the soap, which helps when customers pick boxes up to sniff and squeeze.

Card can mark if a bar is still sweating, so let your soap cure fully before it goes in. Fragrance oils can also bleed into card, and a window lets you spot that early. Browse window soap boxes with clear patches if the window is the main feature you want.

Cold process, hot process or melt and pour?

Cold process bars need their full cure before they go into card. Box one too soon and the damp can leave marks or oily patches on the inside of the carton. Press a clean fingertip on the bar. If it feels tacky or cool and damp, give it longer on the rack.

Hot process bars often finish rustic, with a textured top, and cold process bars can carry a little ash. Tell us the height with the rough top included, so the flap closes without squashing it.

Melt and pour bars pull moisture from the air, so many makers wrap them in a thin sheet before boxing. A tuck end is not sealed, so scent escapes slowly, which is no bad thing on a shelf where customers lift the box to smell it.

How does ordering work?

Prices start from £0.25 a box, and the final figure depends on size, board, print and how many you want. Here is how an order goes.

  1. Send your bar size in mm, the bar weight and roughly how many boxes you need.
  2. Tell us white or kraft card and which finish appeals.
  3. Expect an emailed quote from us inside one working day.
  4. You receive a free design proof, and nothing is printed until you approve it.
  5. Printing takes 4 to 6 working days from the moment you sign off the proof.
  6. Your boxes travel free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days.

If a box arrives misprinted or damaged, tell us within 10 days and we will reprint or refund it.

Posting tuck end boxes without scuffed corners

Corners are where boxes show wear first. Close every flap fully, pack the boxes face to face in a snug outer carton so they cannot slide, and stand them on their long edges rather than piling them high.

For customer orders, put two or three boxes together with a sheet of tissue or card between each pair. Our guide to packing soap for posting covers outer cartons and filling the gaps.

On the shelf, at the market and in the room

At a market stall, boxes stand in a row or lie flat in a basket. Put the name on the front and the scent on the narrow edge so it reads from any angle, even when customers are hurrying past in the rain.

Gift shops like a consistent box height so bars line up on a shelf. Hotels and guest houses can use a small box for the guest bar with their own name on it. Wedding favour makers often choose a smaller bar and a single ink colour, which keeps a big run tidy.

What goes on a soap box label?

Expect a bar of soap sold in the UK to show its product name, its weight, the ingredients and who made it. Before your artwork is final, check the current UK cosmetics rules, because cosmetic rules cover soap. We print what you send and do not review the wording for you.

Leave a clear patch on the back if you plan to add a batch number or a sticker later.

When is another style a better fit?

A tuck end encloses the bar completely. If you want to show more of it, or your bars are an awkward shape, compare the options in box, sleeve and wrap compared. A sleeve slides over the middle of the bar, while a wrap band is the lightest way to dress it.

Tuck End Soap Boxes questions

More answers in Help, or call +44 7578 382054 or message us on WhatsApp.

Do tuck end boxes need glue or tape?

No. The end flaps tuck into the body to hold the bar. Some makers add a small sticker across a flap as a seal, and you can mention that when you ask for a quote.

What box size do I need for a 100 g bar?

A common 100 g bar measures 90 x 60 x 25 mm. The box inside for that would be about 92 x 62 x 27 mm. Measure your own cured bars first, as moulds and loaf cutters vary.

Can you print inside the box?

Yes. Print inside the flap or body is available, which suits a short message, a scent note or a bold colour that appears when the bar slides out.

Can I get these in kraft?

Yes. Kraft card is available as an alternative to white, with a white ink panel if you want your text to stand out. Have a look at our kraft soap boxes for a warmer look to compare.

Is a window possible on a tuck end box?

Yes. A clear film patch can be cut in any shape. It keeps fingers off the bar, but let soap cure fully first, because card can mark if a bar is still sweating.

Will the scent come through the box?

A little will, as a tuck end is not sealed. Strong fragrance oils can also bleed into card over time, so ask us about a window or a different board if your scent is potent.

Can I use a tuck end box for a shampoo bar?

Square or rectangular shampoo bars fit well. Round bars about 65 mm across need a different shape, so tell us what you make and we will point you to the right box.

How many boxes can I order?

We keep minimums low and set them per job. Tell us roughly how many you want, from a small first run upward, and the quote will show what is possible.

Can I run several scents in one box size?

Yes. Keep the box size the same for every bar from one mould and change only the colour or scent name on the print. Tell us how many versions you need when you ask for your quote.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses, tracked and usually 2 to 3 working days once your boxes are printed.

Will my name get cut off by the end flaps?

It should not. The proof shows exactly where each flap folds and tucks, so you can move a name or scent line clear of the crease before the run goes ahead.

What if a tuck end box arrives with a crushed flap?

Message us within 10 days and we will reprint the order or refund you. A clear photo of the flap or corner lets us sort it out fast.
