Why pick kraft card for handmade soap?

Plain brown card suits a bar that looks made by hand. It sits well beside cold process swirls, a rough-cut loaf edge or a top finished with dried petals. A shopper at a market sees the brown, thinks small batch, and picks it up.

The card also gives your print a quiet backdrop. One ink colour on kraft often looks sharper than a busy wrap, and it asks less of you at the bench. For a wider look at what we print, see our custom printed soap boxes.

Who orders kraft boxes most?

Makers who sell at weekend markets order them for the stall. Small bath and beauty brands use them for a core range where only the scent name changes. Hotels and B&Bs choose them for guest soaps, often around a 75 x 50 x 25 mm bar of about 60 g.

Wedding and event favour makers like the plain look because a name and a date print cleanly on it. Shampoo bar and bath bomb makers use kraft too, though a round 65 mm product needs a different box shape, so tell us what you are boxing.

Which kraft box style fits your bar?

Kraft card takes several shapes. This table shows the common choices and what each is good at.

How do you size a kraft box to your bar?

A box that is too tight scuffs the edges as the bar goes in. One that is too loose rattles in the post. Measuring takes two minutes.

1. Cure the bar fully, then measure length, width and height in mm.
2. Measure three bars from the same batch, because loaf cutting is rarely identical.
3. Use the largest of each measurement as your bar size.
4. Send us that size. We add about 2 mm each way, which is 1 mm a side, for the box inside.
5. Note the weight in grams, so we know if you are boxing a guest bar or a 150 g bar.

Common UK bars include 90 x 60 x 25 mm (about 100 g), 75 x 50 x 25 mm (about 60 g) and 100 x 65 x 30 mm (about 150 g). More examples sit in soap box sizes by bar weight.

How does print look on brown card?

Kraft is brown, so every ink is seen against that colour. Dark inks such as black, navy or deep green read clearly. Pale pink or cream can turn muddy unless they sit on a white ink panel.

A white ink panel is a patch of white printed first, with your artwork on top. It works well for a logo block or a scent name. Printing inside a lid is another option, handy for a short message the customer finds when they open the box.

Full colour, one ink colour or two ink colours are all available. Finishes such as matt, gloss, soft-touch, foil, spot varnish and embossing go on the quote. Foil over a small logo catches the light nicely against the brown.

Can a kraft soap box have a window?

Yes. A window patch is clear film behind a cut-out, and the shape is up to you: round, square, oval or something of your own. It lets a buyer see the swirl without lifting the lid.

The film keeps fingers off the bar. It does not seal the box against damp, and card can mark if a bar is still sweating. Our window patches and moisture guide explains what to look for.

Cut-outs, bands and white side panels

Kraft boxes do not have to stay plain. A simple round hole lets scent reach a customer's nose at a stall. A square cut-out shows more of the bar. A printed band across the front gives a plain box its name without covering the whole surface.

A white side panel gives you a clean area for ingredients and batch details. Mix these however you like. Plain kraft with one coloured band suits a range where only the scent changes.

What should you check before boxing a bar?

A short check at the bench saves regret later. Kraft is absorbent card, so a bar that still weeps can leave a dull patch.

• The bar has finished curing and feels hard, not tacky.
• No beads of sweat on the surface, which can show on melt and pour.
• Ash on a cold process top has been wiped or planed off.
• Fragrance oil has settled, since strong oils can bleed into raw card.
• Edges are bevelled or smooth so corners do not catch on the fold.
• Size and weight match what you gave us for the quote.

Will kraft boxes survive posting?

A tuck end kraft box keeps its shape in a padded envelope or outer carton, provided the bar fits snugly. Corners are where scuffs start, so pack boxes flat against each other rather than loose. Read packing soap for posting before your next parcel goes out.

Which lines belong on the box next to your logo?

Most soap sold in the UK ends up with its name, weight, ingredients and the maker's details on the pack, so plan room for all of them on your kraft box. The white side panel or the base of the box is a sensible home for those lines. Check the current UK cosmetics rules before you finalise the wording.

You get a free design proof before anything is printed. Production takes 4 to 6 working days after proof approval, then free tracked UK mainland delivery follows in 2 to 3 working days. Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.
