Shampoo Bar Box details
Measure the cured bar
Shampoo bars shrink as they dry. Measure three bars from one batch after curing and send us the largest size. We add about 2 mm each way, which is 1 mm a side.
Round bar, square box
A round bar sits happily in a square box. The corners give you room for a paper wrap, a card cradle or a little air so the edge of the bar is not rubbed.

Design Your Soap Box
Drop your logo on a real photo of our shampoo bar boxes, move it and size it, and send it. A designer sets it up to your bar size and sends a free proof.

Your logo sits on a real photo of our packaging. A designer redraws it to scale on your box and sends a free proof before anything is printed.
Shampoo bar boxes made to your bar
A shampoo bar is not simply a bar of soap in another colour. It is often round, often denser, and it ends up in a shower rather than beside a basin. Your box should suit that.
We print shampoo bar boxes to the exact size of your bar, whether you press a 65 mm disc or cut a square block from a loaf. The default here is a kraft tuck end box for a 65 x 65 x 25 mm bar. Change the size, board or print and we quote it that way. Boxes start from £0.25 a box.
What size box does a round shampoo bar need?
Measure the widest point of the bar, then its height. For a round bar about 65 mm across and 25 mm tall, the inside of the box is about 67 x 67 x 27 mm. That leaves roughly 2 mm of play each way, enough to slide the bar in without a squeeze.
Measure once the bar has finished curing. Water leaves as it dries, so a bar pressed at 66 mm may sit nearer 64 mm a few weeks later. Check three from the same batch and use the biggest.
Mould size and cured size are two different numbers, so go by the second. If you cut square bars from a loaf, a bevelled edge takes a millimetre or so off each corner, so measure across the flat as well as the diagonal.
If you are unsure how weight maps to size, the page on soap box sizes by bar weight lists common UK examples.
Why a tuck end box suits a solid bar
A tuck end box closes with a flap that pushes into a slot. There is no glue and no tape, so a customer can open it, smell the bar and close it again. That happens a lot on a market table.
The flap stays shut on the shelf and opens flat for filling at your bench. A square carton also gives a round bar space around its edge, which helps if you wrap the bar in paper first. For the straight-sided version in more detail, see tuck end soap boxes.
Kraft card or white card?
Kraft card has a warm, natural brown tone that flatters a cold process bar with a rough top or a herb fleck. A white ink panel lets a logo stay crisp on the brown, so the name still reads across a crowded stall.
White card is the cleaner ground for full colour. Pastel bars, bright swirls and photographic labels all look truer on it. A smooth, single-colour bar often looks sharpest in a white box, while a speckled, rustic top belongs in kraft. If you are weighing up a logo on brown board, printing your logo on kraft explains how the inks behave.
Will a damp bar mark the card?
It can. A bar that is still sweating, or one heavy with fragrance oil, may leave marks on card. Fragrance oils also bleed into board over time, so test one box before you commit to a full run.
Let each batch cure fully and sit on the rack until the surface feels dry. A window patch keeps fingers off the bar, but we do not claim the film or the card stops damp. Cure first, box second. Our note on window patches and moisture goes further.
Inserts that keep a round bar still
A round bar rolls. In a loose box it knocks against the sides and the edge can chip. A card insert holds it where you put it and gives the opened box a tidy look. If your bars vary by a millimetre or two from batch to batch, tell us and we will cut the cradle slightly generous.
Typical choices for shampoo bars:
- A card cradle with a round cut-out sized to the bar
- A flat card base that lifts the bar off the floor of the box
- A folded card strip behind the bar for a snug fit
- A divider when two small bars share one box
Inserts are cut to your bar, and you will find the full range under soap boxes with card inserts.
How does an order run from proof to doorstep?
You do not need finished artwork to begin. A bar size, a weight and a rough idea are enough.
- Send us your bar size, weight, board choice and a sketch or logo.
- We quote your order by email within one working day.
- You receive a free design proof before anything is printed.
- Approve the proof and production takes 4 to 6 working days.
- Free tracked UK mainland delivery follows in 2 to 3 working days.
- Report a misprint or damage within 10 days and it is reprinted or refunded.
Which print and finish suit a shampoo bar box?
Pick the print for the look you want on the shelf, then the finish for how it feels in the hand. Finishes are priced on the quote.
| Option | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Full colour | Colour-led ranges and bright bars | Looks truest on white card |
| One or two inks | Simple, clean branding | Sits well on kraft |
| White ink panel | A logo on kraft board | Keeps pale text readable |
| Print inside a lid | A small surprise on opening | Hidden until the box is open |
| Matt or soft-touch | A calm, quiet shelf look | Soft-touch feels smooth to hold |
| Foil or embossing | A name or small mark | Works best kept small |
What should the box say about the bar?
A shampoo bar box usually has to find room for the product name, weight, ingredients and your maker details, since UK cosmetic rules apply to soap sold here. Check the current UK cosmetics rules for your own product, because we cannot advise on them.
Plan the space early. A back panel or the underside of the lid works well. Shampoo bars often need a line such as keep dry between uses, so leave room for that too. Send final wording with your artwork and we will lay it out on the proof.
Will shampoo bar boxes survive the post?
Small square boxes travel well, though corners take the knocks. Pack them snug in an outer carton so nothing rattles, and make sure every bar is cured so nothing sweats against the card. Stand filled boxes on their sides rather than flat, so the weight above does not press the tuck flaps open.
For a pack-by-pack routine, packing soap for posting covers cartons, fillers and what to do about scuffed corners. Our own delivery to you is free, tracked and arrives within the UK mainland.

More answers in Help, or call +44 7578 382054 or message us on WhatsApp.
Can you make boxes for round shampoo bars?
Yes. A round bar sits in a square-section box with a little space at the corners. We size the inside to your bar plus about 2 mm each way, and a card insert can hold the bar still.
What size box do I need for a 65 mm round bar?
For a bar about 65 mm across and 25 mm tall, the inside is about 67 x 67 x 27 mm. Measure after curing, since the bar can shrink slightly as it dries.
Do square shampoo bars need a different box?
The style can stay the same. We simply cut the box to the length, width and height of your block, so a square bar gets a snug rectangle rather than extra air.
Is kraft or white card better for a shampoo bar?
Kraft gives a natural, earthy look and takes a white ink panel well. White card suits bright full colour. Tell us your bar colours and we will say which reads better.
Can I add a window to see the bar?
Yes. Window patches use clear film and can be cut in any shape, including a circle that echoes a round bar. The film keeps fingers off the bar.
Can a bar that is still curing go in the box?
Wait until it is cured. A bar that is sweating can mark card, and fragrance oils can bleed into board. Let it dry first and the box stays cleaner.
Can I print usage instructions inside the lid?
Yes. Print inside a lid is available, and it is a handy spot for how to store the bar between washes. Give us the wording and we will set it on the proof.
Can I have an insert for a round bar?
Yes. A card cradle, base or divider can be cut for your bar. It stops rolling and makes the opened box look considered.
Will the box keep a shampoo bar dry in the shower?
No. The box is for storing, selling and gifting the bar, and we do not claim the card or the window film stops damp. Tell customers to let the bar drain on a dish between washes, and print that advice on the back panel or inside the lid.
Is delivery free?
Delivery is free, tracked and covers the UK mainland, usually arriving in 2 to 3 working days after production.
Can I order a smaller box for a sample shampoo bar?
Yes. A sample bar gets its own box cut to its own length, width and height, using the same bar plus about 2 mm each way rule. Tell us the cured size of the sample and the full bar and we will quote both sizes together.
How do I get a price for my size?
Send your bar size, weight and board choice and we reply by email within one working day. You can ask for a quote with a quick sketch of what you have in mind.
