A quick sizing rule

Measure your bomb at its widest point. Add about 2 mm each way, which is 1 mm a side, and that is the inside of the box. A 65 mm round bomb sits in a 67 mm space.

Ready to start?

Send the bomb size and how many go in each box to info@thesoapboxes.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp at +44 7578 382054. Every order is quoted by email within one working day.

Why does a bath bomb need its own box?

A bath bomb is a ball, and balls roll. Drop one into a box built for a rectangular bar and it slides about, bumps its neighbour and loses a flake of fizz before the parcel leaves your town. Bath bomb boxes are cut around the round, so each bomb has a place to sit and nowhere to travel.

The box also does the selling. At a market stall or on a gift shop shelf, shoppers pick up printed card long before they smell the bomb. Scent name, colour cues and your logo all sit on the box, and it belongs to our bath and body boxes range alongside bars and sets.

What size should a bath bomb box be?

Most UK makers press bombs in a two-part mould, and 65 mm round is the usual result. That is why the default here is a 70 x 70 x 70 mm box, with room for a thin insert or a handful of shred without squeezing the bomb. Smaller 50 mm bombs and large showpiece bombs are both fine, because every box is made to your mould.

Measure a finished, fully dry bomb rather than the mould, since the seam can leave it a touch wider. The inside of the box is the bomb plus about 2 mm each way. Not sure of your numbers? Send a photo with a ruler beside the bomb. Bar sizes sit on the soap box sizes page if you sell both.

How do you stop a bath bomb rolling?

There are four common answers, and the right one depends on how many bombs go in and how far the box will travel.

  • Card insert. A die-cut tray with a round cut-out for each bomb. Best for sets of two to six, and it makes the opened box look tidy.
  • Paper shred. A nest of shred fills the gaps around a single bomb or a trio. It is quick to pack at the bench and forgiving when bombs vary slightly in size.
  • Snug fit. For one bomb, a box sized close to the diameter with a small card collar underneath is often all you need.
  • Window patch. Not a holder, but a clear film patch lets shoppers see the colour while keeping fingers off the surface.

Slot cut-outs are explained further on soap boxes with inserts, and the same ideas apply to round bombs.

Which style and board suit a bath bomb?

The default is a tuck end box in white card. It arrives flat, closes with a tongue at the top and bottom, and takes full colour print cleanly, which flatters bright bombs. Kraft card is warmer and plainer. On kraft, a white ink panel gives your logo a clean patch to sit on, or you can print one or two ink colours straight onto the brown.

A deep, dark print, like the box in photo 3, makes coloured bombs glow in their slots. An open kraft display box, as in photo 4, suits a counter where the lid stays up. Matt, gloss, soft-touch, foil, spot varnish and embossing are all priced on your quote. The folding style is the one described on tuck end soap boxes.

What should you print on the box?

Bath bombs count as cosmetics, so check the current UK cosmetics rules before you finalise the artwork. Products sold here usually carry the product name, weight, ingredients and the maker's details.

Leave room for those panels before you fall for a big pattern. Many makers put brand and scent on the front, a short how-to-use line on the lid, and the ingredient list on the back or base. Print inside a lid is a nice spot for a thank-you message, and the free design proof shows exactly where every line lands.

Will fragrance and fizz mark the card?

They can. Fragrance oils may bleed into plain card, and a bomb still slightly damp from pressing can leave a spot. Let every bomb dry fully before boxing, and slip a sheet of tissue or cellophane between bomb and board if your blend is oily.

Damp air is a bomb's usual enemy, so keep boxed bombs somewhere dry. Window film keeps fingers off the surface, but we do not claim that card or film will protect a bomb from damp. Read our notes on window patches and moisture before you choose a clear panel.

How should you pack bath bomb boxes for posting?

A box that survives the bench can still struggle in a van. Pack boxes tightly in the outer carton so nothing slides, put heavier sets at the bottom and keep corners away from the carton walls. A strip of tape over the tuck flap stops it popping open on the way.

Bombs are brittle, so a little spare shred in the outer carton is cheap insurance. Our guide to packing soap for posting covers cartons and void fill that suit bombs too.

How does ordering work, step by step?

The quickest start is to ask for a quote with your bomb size and the number going into each box.

  1. Measure a dry bomb at its widest point and note how many go in each box.
  2. Choose the style, the board, and whether you want an insert, shred or window.
  3. Send the details through the quote form, by email, on WhatsApp or by phone.
  4. Receive your quote within one working day, then approve the free design proof.
  5. Production takes 4 to 6 working days after proof approval.
  6. Your boxes arrive by free tracked UK mainland delivery in 2 to 3 working days.

Bombs with spikes, flowers or deep ridges need extra room. Tell us about the shape and we will allow for it.

What does it cost, and what if something goes wrong?

Pricing runs from £0.25 a box, and the final figure depends on size, board, print and quantity. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a small run for a new scent is fine.

Delivery is free, tracked and reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. If a misprint or damage is reported within 10 days, we reprint or refund it. Full terms are on the free tracked delivery page.

Who buys bath bomb boxes?

Mostly small makers who sell at markets, online and through local shops. Hotels and guesthouses order a bomb or two per room, and favour makers for weddings and birthdays like a small box with a printed thank-you inside. If you are planning a hamper of bars, bombs and more, see soap gift boxes too.

Bath Bomb Boxes questions

More answers in Help, or call +44 7578 382054 or message us on WhatsApp.

What size box does a 65 mm bath bomb need?

About 67 mm inside in each direction, plus whatever room your insert or shred takes. Our default is 70 x 70 x 70 mm, and we adjust it to your mould.

Can one box hold several bombs?

Yes. Pairs, trios and sets of six are common, each with a card insert cut for your bomb size so they never touch.

Do I need an insert, or is shred enough?

For a single bomb, shred or a snug fit usually works. For sets, a card insert keeps bombs apart and looks neater when the lid opens.

Can the box have a window?

Yes. A clear film patch in any shape lets shoppers see the colour. It keeps fingers off the bomb but does not replace keeping bombs dry.

Will fragrance oil stain the box?

It can on plain card, especially with oily blends. Dry bombs fully first and add a thin layer of tissue between bomb and board.

Can you print inside the lid?

Yes. Inside-lid print is popular for how-to-use lines, a thank-you note or a pattern that surprises the buyer on opening.

Should I choose kraft or white card?

White card suits bright, full colour artwork. Kraft gives a warmer look, and a white ink panel keeps a logo crisp on the brown.

Which finishes can I add?

Matt, gloss, soft-touch, foil, spot varnish and embossing can all be quoted. Tell us the look you want and we price it.

Can you make boxes for square or oddly shaped bombs?

Yes. Send the length, width and height, or a photo beside a ruler, and we shape the box and insert around it.

How long does production take?

Production is 4 to 6 working days after you approve the free design proof. Delivery then takes 2 to 3 working days across the UK mainland.

What if my boxes arrive damaged or misprinted?

Report it within 10 days and we reprint or refund. The returns and reprints page explains what to send us.

Can I order a small batch for a new scent?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job. Tell us the quantity and we reply by email within one working day.
